19th Century Solid Brass 24" American Federal Andirons & Fire Dogs Historically for those of you from North Alabama - these andirons were taken from the 1890's Tavern Hotel when it burned at the turn of the century. The andirons remained in a local family home until recently. The Tavern was an important stopping point in overland travel and a landmark in Decatur, Alabama. The style is federal. The andirons are solid brass with cast iron fire dogs. There is a urn finial with a ball at the top. The columns are reeded. The feet have the same reeding and a flat federal capped foot. There are brackets at the sides of the column that have a sunburst design that suggests a Louis XV style. As stated the andirons are 24 inches high. The width across the feet is 11 inches. The feet are 7 inches high. The column is 14 inches high and the finial is 6 1/2 inches high. Please feel free to ask for additional information The andirons are large with a height of 24 inches. The firedogs are 19 inches long and will support a large log.
